Anxiety is Hard
Maybe you feel like your mind is on a loop with the same thoughts, memories or fears circulating through repetitively. You may be plagued by past events that elicit feelings of shame and terror. You may be feeling the wear and tear of an unsustainable pace in your work. You may be coping with the accumulated stress of a lifetime of not truly feeling like you can be yourself in your relationships. You may have no idea what is going on for you other than uncomfortable feelings in your body: tightness of chest, tense muscles or an emptiness in your gut that suggests unrest and unease.
Anxiety has a way of hijacking our ability to focus on what we value in the present. It’s like having blinders on: your mind feels like a trap, it’s hard to relax and the burning in your chest and the pit in your belly make it that much harder to ignore. Anxiety can come from many different quarters: genetics, environment, experiences, trauma, relationships to name only a few. While everyone experiences anxiety at times in life, when it becomes the default state of our minds and bodies it can feel unbearable.
Helping people with anxiety is my passion. When we lean into therapy and become curious about the meaning and message that our specific anxiety is carrying to us it often catalyzes a renewed sense of what’s important in life and helps us move towards a more meaningful approach to our relationships and our goals. Intermittent anxiety is part of the human experience, persistent anxiety does not have to be.
